Meine Kindheit schmeckte nach Portugal und nach frischem Gemüse aus dem Garten meiner Großeltern. Mein portugiesischer Opa war Gastronom, und auch bei meinen anderen Großeltern wurde viel gekocht, eingekocht und getrocknet. Ich war gerne mittendrin und habe früh selbst angefangen, in der Küche zu experimentieren. Beruflich zog es mich zunächst in andere Richtungen: Es folgten Ausbildungen und ein Studium, bis ich das Kochen schließlich zu meinem Beruf gemacht habe. Über ein paar Umwege also, aber mit dem Gefühl, genau richtig zu sein.
